No. Not by itself. It would be nice, if people like us had more of a choice about whether we wanted to get violent, get horrifying. But we don't, not really.

And I think the people who love me like to tell themselves that when I go too far, it's not my fault.

I've spent most of my life trying really, really hard to be one of The Good Ones. And lately I've been thinking that maybe that was...

I don't know. We need to remember how powerful we are, and how big our mistakes can be, but at the end of the day we're just people.

You don't need to sort yourself into one side or another. You don't need to define yourself by a team or a cause, the way Scott and I always have.

I certainly hope so, considering.

[ Apocalypse doesn't weigh on her conscience even slightly, but there have been others over the years. Impossible situations that she still regrets, even putting aside everything with Phoenix. ]

i got put in the zoo here a couple months ago
because me and another mutant torched a building
and i also torched a couple sin guards
i don’t feel bad
last year they sent us off to this camp
put collars around our necks that depowered us
i was still angry about that

before i showed up here over a year ago
me, bobby, rogue, and wolverine were surrounded by police
they shot wolverine in the head and yeah he heals and all
but they didn’t even flinch
didn’t think twice about shooting him
so i torched them all
i don’t feel bad for it

does that make me a bad person?

[ There are a few minutes where no answer comes.

Then, finally: ]

It makes us dangerous. It makes a lot of people afraid, which makes them do stupid things.

It's important for us to do our best to reign that in, to know how to protect ourselves and our people without going that far. I could teach you how to do that, because I do believe it's for the best. Losing control can lead down a horrible road, paved with much less deserving targets.

But you know what, John? Not speaking as an X-Man or a Headmistress, just Jean?
